Oak Ridge, Tennessee was the largest of the three Manhattan Project "Secret Cities." The massive (and super-secret) Manhattan Project was begun by President Roosevelt in 1942 to build the world's first atomic bomb---if such a bomb could be built. It's techical team was headed by J. Robert Oppenheimer and the overall project by General Leslie R. Groves.
